Kicad Template project uses the following files:

Creating the metadata folder.
Kicad metadata directory is a subdirectory named meta containing files describing the template.
The metadata consists of two required files and may contain optional files.
The following are the two required files:

meta/ info.html - HTML formatted information describing the template. Only basic HTML tags can be used in this document.
meta/ icon.png - A 64 x 64 pixel PNG icon file which is used as a clickable icon in the template selection dialog.

The following are examples of optional files

meta/ brd.png - A board schematic outline png file. (Optional)
meta/ 3D.png - A snapshoot png file from the 3D viewer. (Optional)

icon.png Is a 64 X 64 bit png file used for the thumbnail in the user defined menu.

3D.png - The 3D Picture of the 50mm X 50mm board:

brd.png - Board schematic outline from the schematic
